Humna Mustafa and I held an exhibition exactly 2 years ago for SALA called a thread ~ a web ~ a world. It was a huge thrill for me to work so closely with Humna, and it was during this time that we became the closest of friends.
We created 23 photos for the show over 5 months. I photographed Humna painting her patterns on the models from beginning to end, then we would sift through the photos together to decide on the final cut.
The exhibition itself was a huge success, with an estimated 500 people at the opening; there were even some people lining up at the door who couldn’t get in! It ran for the three weeks during SALA 2008.
We have plans of taking the whole show interstate at some point… You can view (and purchase!) the framed, signed, limited edition photos here – www.athreadawebaworld.com.
This photo is Humna and my hands, decorated by Humna with henna, and it was used for the invitation for the exhibition.Tags: a thread a web a world, art, exhibition, hands, henna, humna, humna mustafa, sala
